532 Gallery is pleased to announce In Bloom, a group exhibition featuring a selection of artists from the gallery’s longstanding roster, as well as new additions. Featuring paintings, mixed-media works, sculptures and more, In Bloom opens June 17 and runs through July 31.
In the spirit of reawakening, these artists are embracing new shades of novelty and traversing fresh, luminous horizons. A vernal air of renewal and reawakening halos the works on view. The artists command their own vision, while showing how their works can awaken new associations against the backdrop of the gallery’s expanding programming.
Vitality is the watchword of In Bloom – a resurgent sense of presence, of movement potential, literal and metaphorical. Since the gallery’s inception, 532 Gallery has featured artists who assert bold experiments in color. Delving into the hidden depths of our everyday reality, works by these artists, known for their vivid, quasi-surreal character, captivate through their unique interplay of colors. Using precise, figurative forms, or alluding thereto, they express renewal through the way they use rhythmic patterns to depict scenes which are meditative while not eschewing a certain air of lightsomeness and comedic delight.
A sense of contrast, the simultaneity of different painterly styles, permeates 532 Gallery's oeuvre. In Bloom explores ideas of creation, existence, and personal reflection. The works on view incorporate an arsenal of expressive techniques, where the locus of energy is confined to no single place, but is, as it were, activated globally. Within this fecund realm the very sensation of centeredness becomes destabilized. While the theme of cyclical renewal signals a return from a journey, In Bloom equally announces the approaching future. Locked into the present moment, the exhibition naturally owes everything to the diversity of the participating artists, and the range of media they work with. A sense of contrast, the simultaneity of different painterly styles, permeates the works on view—with sensuality, elegance, and imagination.
