Overview

Michael Wang (born New York) lives and works between New Haven, New York City, and Beijing. He studied Ethics, Politics, and Economics at Yale while double-majoring in painting, attended the Yale Norfolk School of Art, and was a Swensen Scholar. His paintings find wry humor and joy in hybrid identities, global stereotypes, and life’s challenges. Works such as The Last Emperor (2025) place imperial robes against cosmic fields, playfully reframing heritage, power, and cultural inheritance. He embraces a global-citizen perspective, engaging multiple cultures through both formal study and lived experience. He previously exhibited in the group exhibition In Bloom at 532 Gallery Thomas Jaeckel (2025).
