Z.T. Nguyễn Vietnamese‑American, b. 1997
In Insectoid, a violet torso crosses its arms while its head disappears beyond the top edge. The overlapping limbs are difficult to count: the figure seems guarded, but also capable of changing shape. Nguyễn has spoken about drawing from his own body and using fractured figures to register the physical experience of being seen by others. This one holds that tension without giving it a fixed identity or a finished story.
