Biography

Z.T. Nguyễn (they/he, b. 1997, Vietnamese-American) is based between Maryland/New York and New Haven. They received a BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design (2019) and an MFA in Painting & Printmaking from the Yale School of Art (2025). Primarily rooted in drawing (extending into installation and text-based work), Nguyễn probes the psychological space between stasis and change—the charged interval where desire, transformation, and rupture hover but never fully arrive. Often nocturnal, pseudo-mythological, and bodily, the works employ monochromatic washes of bright, alarming colors and unsettling imagery. Many are constructed from lightly creased 8.5 × 11” sheets of paper designed to be folded, packed, and carried, meditating on refugee, queer, and migratory thresholds. Their debut solo exhibition Facts Are Bigger in the Dark was held at island, New York (2025). Group exhibitions include Perrotin (New York), Asia Art Archive in America (Brooklyn), Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (Hà Nội), and Klaus von Nichtssagend (New York). Residencies include Textile Arts Center and Asia Art Archive in America. (they/he, b. 1997, Vietnamese-American) is based between Maryland/New York and New Haven.
