Danielle Riede
Lucia's (2026) is a deeply personal work within Danielle Riede's ongoing exploration of painting beyond the traditional canvas. Composed of collected and repurposed paint fragments, the installation transforms remnants of artistic production into a new arrangement of color, texture, and form.
The work takes its name from Riede's daughter, Lucia, who was born in the same year the artist began collecting materials for this particular installation. Completed in 2026, the work's material history therefore spans the years of Lucia's life, creating an intimate parallel between the growth of the installation and the passage of time experienced by mother and daughter.
Building upon Riede's long-standing practice of giving discarded paint materials new life, Lucia's brings together ideas of accumulation, transformation, memory, and renewal. What began as a collection of individual fragments has developed into a work that carries both a material and a personal history, connecting the evolving life of an artwork with the life of the person for whom it is named.
