Overview

Jean-Guerly Petion uses symbols as well as imageries often suggesting the extremes of differences and contrasts. His paintings confront emotionally charged first- and third-world class issues via theoretical texts and compelling images depictions of power plays directly invoking the contemporary art scene itself in his assemblage and mixed-media sculpture and painting. The work issues demands for a new reading of gods and commoners, hope and despair, faith and mistrust

Currently living and working in Los Angeles California, Pétion holds a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute, an MFA from cal arts .
