Porta Portese is an ancient city gate located near the banks of the Tiber on the southern edge of Trastevere. As a Rome Scholar at the British School at Rome, the artist visited the market there many times, drawing upon its colour and urban dynamism. It was here in 1998, in a coffee bar, he first heard the Vivaldi Quattro Stagioni which stuck in his mind and 26 years later decided to paint this event, in his own unique way, full of energy and reflection.
