My recent paintings Adagio 1 and Adagio 2 were directly inspired by Samuel Barber's "Adagio for strings", written whilst he was living in Rome in 1937, a place where I have lived and visited regularly since 1998.. For me it has a heartfelt intensity and integrity that inspired me to create both paintings in the studio towards the end of 2024. So these work were direct responses to his music and reflected in the layering and flowing rhythmic nature of my compositions. Adagio 1 and 2 have bold pinkish and blueish hues that are traversed by contrasting visual dynamics which converse with the main colours in order to reflect his melodious composition. These paintings are explorations of my own visual vocabulary in response to another person's artistic vision whom I greatly admire.
