Turner’s new paintings reflect a prolonged engagement and relationship with the landscape. The works express an ideology of kinship with the land itself, beaconing to a relationship with the minerals, trees, and undulations of the land. Intense light, almost supernatural, erupts from behind the scenes, disclosing shadows which become the subject of the painting. Everything is in darkness until one’s eyes acclimate, illuminating what was previously hidden. These paintings intersect Turner’s relationship with walking and returning, her commitment to understand the legacy of the land, its deep history, and our embedded nature.
